Concealing your goals versus divulging them

Have you ever given a thought whether making some people know your ambitions, goals or some of your other endeavors might actually be hindrances rather than active catalysts to achieving the same? This question deserves a thought and there are two sides to this.
Once you decide to make your goals public, it does not take time to reach every nook and cranny of your social circle. Let's see what happens after this. You have somewhere started to do something to get your goals into reality. Now, people, initially curious as it is new to them, will ask you about what are you doing, what is the idea of your project, what efforts have you put for the same etc. You will explain to them and sort of get a sense of pseudo-satisfaction that you are doing something and nailing it even though you might not know the very basics of it.Part of this satisfaction springs from the fact that you are doing something different which your friends are not; making you look superior in your own eyes. Congratulations! You now have a social aspect attached to your goal and expect people to care for what you do further in your work. But gradually, people's interest in your work dwindles because it is not "their" interest but yours that got you into doing/performing this activity/work/endeavor. Although you might have initially pursued that endeavor with your own interest but the growing disconcern of people makes you care less and less and you lose your motivation towards achieving your goals.Had you not made your goals public this would have not happened.
Looking at the other side, there are some people, friends, parents, teachers who really care about your work. Revealing your goals to them makes it better. These people are constantly at your back and motivate you, guide you and give inputs to achieving your intended aim. Also by revealing your goals to these people you become answerable to them and you become accountable for your work which is constantly judged by these near ones. So instead of being a deterrent, it could actually boost your enthusiasm and make you more focussed towards your aim.
Although I am juxtaposing the two views, the decision to make between whom to let know of your goals and whom not to is completely at your discretion and best of luck with the same:)
